Uh, It's Jayvee.

Exploring myself.

BBC: The Reith Lectures: Edward Said: Representation of the Intellectual (1993)

residueatlas:

Palestinian-American literary theorist Edward Said delivers six Reith Lectures examining the role of the Intellectual in modern society.

In his first of six Reith Lectures, Edward Said examines how intellectuals have been defined by academics, sociologists and writers throughout history. He explores what their role should be in the modern world and looks at what the public and private versions of an intellectual are.

Lectures are at 30 minute intervals - the above is only the first one, the rest are all available on the site. They’re available in book-format too, and are a quick and super enjoyable read.

Highly recommended. I should pull out some quotes but honestly just listen/read. As if you need me to convince you of how great it is to sit and listen to Said.

Also just, the Reith Lectures.

One of my favorite collections by one of my favorite public intellectuals. An unbelievable read.

Also yes, go watch them too.

This was a great read.

Edward Said was one of my favorites back in college. My thesis would be non-existent without him. That seems so long...
